Notes from Adams County Animal Shelter

Meet Chocolate! She is a part of a bonded pair with Mocha A202885! If you are looking for two very sweet girls look no further! Guinea pigs make wonderful pets for kids, teens, and adults. They are lower maintenance than rabbits, and less skittish than hamsters, so they can be a great “middle ground” for a first pet. Guinea pigs are social and do best with a companion of the same gender. They are fast learners and many will squeal in delight when they anticipate a veggie treat or a fun activity. Guinea pigs need a secure enclosure to live in, but benefit from supervised time outside their enclosure to stretch their legs. Guinea pigs generally live between 4-8 years with proper care.
