For shelters and rescues
AdoptNearby shows your adoptable animals to people searching by species and state, and sends them to your own adoption page or application. Nothing changes on your side.
How listings get here. We read the RescueGroups.org adoptable pet data feed, the same feed that sends your animals to the big adoption sites. If your organization uses RescueGroups, Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet, you are almost certainly already in it. When you allow AdoptNearby in your RescueGroups sharing settings, your animals appear here within a day. We also list shelters that publish on Shelterluv and city and county shelters with public data feeds.
Your own page. Every organization with animals listed has its own page showing all of them, updated daily. Find your organization.
What we never do. No ads next to your animals. No popups. No adopter accounts, no lead forms that hold people back from you, no fees to you or to adopters.
The free badge for your website
Why add it. Supporters who visit your website get one click to every animal you have listed, with photos, in one place, on a page with no ads next to your animals. Anyone interested is sent back to you to apply. It costs nothing, and you never have to update it. It also helps us: links from shelter websites are how new adopters find AdoptNearby, which puts more eyes on your animals.
How it works. The badge is a small image that links to your page here. Your page refreshes every day from the listings you already post, so new animals appear and adopted ones come off without anyone touching the badge.
How to add it.
- Find your organization on the shelters list and open your page.
- Scroll to "Is this your organization?" at the bottom and copy the code in the box. It already points to your page.
- In your website editor, add an Embed, Custom HTML or Code block where you want the badge (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and most others have one) and paste the code in.
- Save and publish. That is all.
If your site does not allow code, a plain text link to your page works just as well. Your page shows that version too.
Or show your animals right on your website
Instead of a badge, you can put your available animals themselves on your own site: a grid of up to 12 photos with names, refreshed from your listings, with no ads and no tracking. Each animal links to its full listing, and a link at the bottom leads to all of them. Adoptions still go to you. On your page here, copy the code under "Show your animals on your own website" and paste it into an Embed, Custom HTML or Code block, the same way as the badge.
Questions, corrections or help adding the badge: email support@adoptnearby.org with your organization's name and a person will reply, usually the same day. If you would rather not be listed, say so and we will take care of it.
