Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

Meet Alpine! He is a 1 year old Mini Rex. In his previous home, he had been around children ranging from 5 to 18 and did well. He would be a little squirmy at first, but settles into cuddles when he was held against his owner's chest. Here at the shelter, we find him a curious, perky, busy bunny who loves to explore and engage. He is a classic Mini Rex: amazingly soft with markings to match. There are even a few heart shaped spots too! As he gets accustimed to his volunteer humans, he is starting to enjoy the pets we give him. Come in and meet this special bun and see if he might be your best mate. We recommend all adopted domestic rabbits live inside your home and given space to exercise and express their curiosity so they truly become a part of the family. Alpine's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
