Notes from Humane Society of Missouri - Longmeadow

Meet Miller! Miller is a kind, inquisitive gelding who came to Longmeadow in Spring of 2025 and is ready to find his forever home! This pretty Quarter Horse made it through his routine quarantine with ease and was evaluated by our trainers soon after. Upon evaluation, Miller showed signs of lameness. After a lameness exam and imaging, it was determined that Miller would never be comfortable as a riding horse but would be sound as a pasture pet. When it comes to groundwork, Miller will need a confident and experienced handler to help him learn how to channel his uncertainty. When overwhelmed or unsure, his current `go-to` response is a `pop up.” We don’t even want to call it a rear because he only has come a couple feet off the ground, but it’s definitely a habit that will need to be fixed. With time, training, and a consistent routine, we think this behavior should diminish as he builds trust and understanding. It took a few months of training and positive reinforcement, but Miller now knows how to stand patiently to get his feet trimmed. He has come a long way from the horse he was when he arrived but will need continued training and desensitizing in his new home. Adoption Fee: $500Height:15.2hh
