Overview Meet Lucy, a 9-year-old, 9-pound smooth black and tan Dachshund. Surrendered by her owner due to advanced dementia, Lucy is a sweet, docile senior lady who is at her happiest when bouncing around and chasing you for meals or treats. While her condition comes with a high level of need, she brings a gentle presence and a lot of heart. Environment Lucy has high energy when she’s awake, this is mostly solo pacing rather than requiring active play. Because of her advanced dementia, she can’t be potty trained and will eliminate at will, requiring an adopter who is fully prepared to accept and manage this. She can’t be left alone freely due to the potty situation, but she does well with a secure fenced yard and sleeps mostly in the car on long trips. She is quiet and suitable for shared walls. Pets & People Lucy is docile and does not actively seek out attention from people or other animals. She mostly ignores other pets, though she might occasionally bump into them because she isn't cognizant of personal space while pacing. At mealtimes, a barrier is needed between her and other dogs because she can get confused and try to eat out of another dog's dish, but this stems from confusion rather than greed. She is a sweet girl looking for a loving home to live out her days in peace. Health & Special Needs Lucy has advanced dementia, or canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD), which requires lifelong medication. Due to her history of GI and pancreatitis, she must stay on a prescription low-fat, GI-friendly diet, with any treats aligned to these medical needs. She requires three small meals a day and is most joyful at feeding time. Location Lucy is available for adoption from Richmond, Virginia. Please email leslie@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above.

The adoption fee for Lucy is $375.
