Notes from SRGDRR Inc aka Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab

Luna | Smart, Goofy, Affectionate, and Full of PersonalityLocation: Hershey, PADOB: 10/2/2021Meet Luna! This big, beautiful girl has a larger-than-life personality to match her size. Smart, playful, expressive, and strong-willed, Luna knows what she likes and isn't shy about sharing her opinions! She may greet you with a toy in her mouth while talking around it, give you the classic Great Dane lean when she disagrees with your plans, or invite you to play a spirited game of keep-away. Personality and Favorite ThingsLuna enjoys running, exploring outdoors, going for walks, riding in the car, and playing with people she trusts. She has average energy overall but loves opportunities to stretch her legs and run. She is also an affectionate cuddle bug who enjoys pets, attention, and being close to her people. She has a natural watchdog instinct and will alert her family when someone approaches. Training and BehaviorLuna is a strong-willed girl who will benefit from an experienced adopter committed to positive, consistent training and safe management. Her current needs include:Resource guarding: Luna guards food, water, toys, and resting areas. Her adopter must understand resource guarding, respect her boundaries, and be prepared to manage her environment safely. Separation anxiety: She becomes anxious when left alone for extended periods and would benefit from a home where someone is present frequently. Crate anxiety: She is uncomfortable in a crate and is still working toward feeling more comfortable with confinement. Housebreaking: She is still learning and has had occasional overnight accidents. Leash manners and recall: She sometimes pulls on leash, and her recall is unreliable. Veterinary care: She experiences anxiety at the vet. She tolerated a muzzle during her first veterinary visit, but her muzzle training history is unknown. Luna needs patient, reward-based training, predictable routines, and clear, humane boundaries. Because of her resource guarding, an adopter should avoid confronting or forcibly taking items from her and should seek qualified professional guidance. Other Animals and ChildrenLuna currently lives with two other dogs. She enjoys playing and wrestling with her young female Golden Retriever housemate, but she does not get along with her older male Labrador mix housemate, with whom she has conflicts involving resources and control. She may be compatible with a carefully selected female dog who respects her boundaries, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Slow introductions, separate resources, and ongoing supervision and management would be essential. Her compatibility with cats is unknown. Due to her size and resource guarding, a home with teenagers or older children is recommended. All household members must be able to respect her space and follow safe management guidelines. Luna’s Ideal HomeLuna would do best with an experienced, committed adopter who can provide:Consistent routines and calm, positive leadership. A secure area for running and outdoor enrichment. Plenty of companionship and gradual, thoughtful alone-time training. Respect for her resting areas and careful management of food, water, and toys. Patience as she continues developing her house-training, leash skills, and confidence. Luna can be a challenging girl in some situations, but she also has a playful, loving, goofy side that emerges as trust grows. She needs a home that recognizes both her strengths and her challenges, prioritizes safety, and is willing to help her succeed. Luna is looking for more than a place to live. She's looking for a patient, understanding family willing to build trust, honor her boundaries, and love the big personality behind those big-dog antics.===============================================================================To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
