Notes from SRGDRR Inc aka Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab

Meet Goose! Location: Hartford, WIDOB: January 9, 2025Goose is a young Great Dane with a heart as big as his paws and a personality that's impossible not to love! This happy-go-lucky boy is the definition of a social butterfly—playful, affectionate, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. At just over a year and a half old, Goose is still very much a puppy. He approaches life with endless enthusiasm, a goofy personality, and an unwavering belief that every person and dog he meets could become his new best friend. Whether he's running after tennis balls, exploring a hiking trail, enjoying a car ride, or curling up beside his favorite humans, Goose simply loves being part of the action. A Social Butterfly with a Heart of GoldGoose is an outgoing, friendly boy who genuinely loves people. He's affectionate, tolerant, and always eager to make new friends. He enjoys meeting visitors, going on outings, and exploring new places. One of his favorite activities is accompanying his foster family on trips to the store, where he gets to wander the aisles and investigate all the interesting smells. He's also a fantastic travel companion who loves car rides, especially when there's a pup cup involved! Goose is happiest when he's spending time with his people. He's a true Velcro Dane who wants to know where you are at all times. When his foster works from home, Goose often chooses to sleep underneath the desk rather than on one of the perfectly comfortable dog beds nearby. He'll even check on you in the bathroom or watch through the windows when you're outside, just to make sure everything is okay. His favorite ways to show affection include enthusiastic kisses, leaning against your legs, and celebrating your return—even if you've only been upstairs for a few minutes! An Adventure Buddy Through and ThroughGoose is an active young dog who needs regular exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy. He absolutely loves running, chasing balls, playing with canine friends, hiking, exploring, and spending time outdoors. He'll occasionally even bring the ball back during fetch! He also enjoys enrichment activities such as stuffed Kongs, lick mats, snuffle mats, and treat puzzles. Goose has a moderate-to-high energy level and would thrive with a family who enjoys an active lifestyle. Once he's had enough exercise and stimulation, he's perfectly capable of settling down and relaxing with his people. Training & Home LifeGoose is a smart boy who has already learned some wonderful household skills. He's fully house-trained, crate-trained, and travels beautifully in the car. He's continuing to work on his leash manners and impulse control. Goose can become excited when he thinks he's going for a walk or car ride, sometimes jumping or trying to rush through the front door. His foster family has already seen improvements with consistent training and routines. He does best walking with a chest harness, as he has figured out how to back out of a regular collar. Goose is also quite the athlete! He can jump over baby gates or knock them down, so a secure environment is important. A sturdy, appropriately high fence would be ideal, although a fenced yard isn't required if his family can provide other safe opportunities for exercise. Like many young dogs, Goose may be anxious or restless during transitions. His foster family noticed that he needed approximately a week to begin settling into his new environment. Once comfortable, he became much calmer and more relaxed throughout the day. With patience, consistency, and continued positive reinforcement, Goose will only continue to blossom. Other Dogs, Cats & ChildrenGoose is a friendly, social dog who enjoys canine companionship. He's lived successfully with both medium and large dogs and especially loves playing with his foster family's older female Great Dane/Boxer mix. He has a playful, enthusiastic style and benefits from canine companions who are confident, socially skilled, and comfortable setting boundaries. Goose has shown that he can adjust his play appropriately when another dog communicates that it's time to settle down. However, he can become overly focused on smaller dogs who are anxious or insecure and may not recognize when they're asking for space. For this reason, a home with small, nervous dogs would not be recommended. Goose would likely thrive with a compatible, confident dog of a similar size who enjoys playing. He could also be perfectly happy as an only dog, provided he receives plenty of exercise, social opportunities, and companionship. Goose has met cats and shown curiosity, but he has not lived with them, so his compatibility with cats remains unknown. When it comes to children, Goose has been wonderful! His foster home includes children ages seven and nine, and he regularly interacts with neighborhood children around six and eight years old. He's gentle, tolerant, and affectionate, even when the kids are energetic and playful. He hasn't been evaluated around babies or toddlers, and because of his size and enthusiastic wagging tail, a home with older, dog-savvy children would be ideal. Medical InformationGoose is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and receives monthly Simparica Trio. He has experienced a mild case of "happy tail," which developed during his initial adjustment to foster care. His enthusiastic tail wagging occasionally causes the healing area to reopen when he strikes something. His foster family is working to get it completely healed. Goose weighed approximately 80 pounds at his last reported veterinary visit. Although he's a Great Dane, he's somewhat smaller in stature than many others of his breed. Goose's Perfect Forever HomeGoose is looking for a family who will embrace his adventurous spirit and include him in everyday life. His ideal home would offer regular walks, outdoor adventures, playtime, enrichment activities, and continued training. He would love a family who enjoys hiking, exploring, and taking their dog along whenever possible. Goose would also benefit from a home where he isn't left alone for extended periods. He does especially well with people who work from home, happily relaxing nearby while they work. A household where he's routinely left alone for more than eight hours would not be a good fit. A compatible canine companion would be a wonderful bonus, but it's not a requirement. What matters most is having people who can give Goose the attention, activity, structure, and affection he needs. Could Goose Be Your Perfect Match? Goose is the kind of dog who makes ordinary days extraordinary. He's the enthusiastic welcome-home committee, the hiking buddy who's always ready to go, the goofy playmate who makes you laugh, and the affectionate shadow who just wants to be wherever you are. He may still have some puppy manners to perfect, but underneath all that energy is an incredibly sweet, loving, and loyal companion who wants nothing more than to share his life with his people. If you're looking for a best friend who will join you on every adventure, shower you with kisses, and make sure you never have to do anything alone again, Goose might just be your perfect match!
