Notes from Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas

Chloe Rae is an 9-month-old puppy who needed a miracle - and got one. After spending over eight agonizing hours trapped in a ditch, a hero rescuer brought her to safety, and arrangements were quickly made to bring her to DDRTX.

Following a long trip from South Texas, Chloe Rae went straight to our vet. Along with her puppy shots, microchip, and heartworm preventative, her X-rays revealed the source of her severe pain and limp: multiple pelvic fractures and a broken femur. To give her the best chance at a pain-free life, she underwent a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery after letting her fractures heal for a month. Her surgery was a success. We know what you're thinking... but we believe she is a "bashund" - basset on the outside, dachshund on the inside! At 22 pounds of pure sweetness, Chloe Rae loves cuddling, exploring, and playing with her foster dog brother (a DDRTX alum!) and foster cat sister. She’s already learned to sit, wait patiently for her meals, walk nicely on a leash, and sleep soundly in her kennel (though she certainly won't turn down a nap in the big bed). She is still working on housetraining. Since she has come into rescue, she was confined with limited movements until surgery and then again while recovering. She was confined for awhile and we had to give her time to heal before worrying about everything else. She has learned so much already!
