BIO UPDATE (9/28/2026): It has been such a joy to watch sweet Roxie settle into her foster home and blossom. She is happiest outdoors, running through the yard, playfully chasing squirrels and birds, and barking when she sees deer in the woods. She shares a special bond with her foster sisters and truly enjoys being with them. Since coming into foster care, Roxie has lost 2 more pounds and is looking slimmer and healthier but losing maybe another 1 ½ lbs would be perfect. She may always have her sweet, sturdy little build, and that is one of the many things that makes her special.

BIO: Roxie came from Alabama. She is a shy girl at first, but once she warms up to you, she’s your friend for life and will follow you all over the house and yard. Roxie is a bit of a picky eater but may have been fed table food, which is why she’s not crazy about dog food.

Roxie is great with other dogs, male and female, but we do not know about cats. So it is best not to try to adopt her if you have a cat. She has been accustomed to her previous owner being home all the time, so she may have to adjust if you work out of the home. It would help having another small, young dog for her to hang with.

Our must-haves for pretty Miss Roxie are:

A fenced yard Another young small dog Someone who can be home more often than not No apartments, high-rises, or condos

If you think Roxie would be a good fit for your home and you meet our requirements, please apply to adopt her. She truly is a sweet girl, but you must be willing to help her lose the weight she needs to be at her best weight.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
