Notes from Hudson Paws Dog Rescue
Moby is a handsome 2-year-old Pointer / Staffordshire mix weighing approximately 61 pounds, with a beautiful white coat, a tan face, and a charming white stripe down his nose. His sweet brown eyes have a way of holding your gaze, but it’s his affection for the people he trusts that makes him so memorable. Moby loves human connection. Cuddling with his favorite people brings him comfort, and he has plenty of love to give in return. He has an especially sweet attachment to the women on staff. When he hears their voices but can’t see them, he makes little moaning sounds—almost like a whale calling—until they appear and give him some attention. It’s an endearing little habit that makes his name feel especially fitting! Moby enjoys running, playing, and spending time with compatible dog friends. He also knows “sit,” does very well on leash walks, and can settle calmly to soak up affection. Sometimes, though, the excitement of seeing someone he loves gets the better of him, and he becomes jumpy and mouthy. He needs an experienced adopter who will help him practice calmer greetings with patience, consistency, and clear guidance. Moby’s life hasn’t always included the comfort and space he needed. Before coming into shelter care, he was living in a car with his owner, his dad, and his sister, Mocha. His owner tried to find help for them, but shelter after shelter was unable to take them. Eventually, a shelter three counties away made room for the whole family. They arrived malnourished, with sores from living in cramped quarters. With care and rehabilitation, they regained their health. Now, in the care of Hudson Paws, Moby is waiting for a home with someone who understands both his affectionate nature and the support he still needs. Moby needs an adopter experienced with rescue dogs who have a history of trauma and complex behavioral needs. He can be fearful of unfamiliar men, so introductions must be slow, thoughtful, and guided by his comfort level. He is also selective about other dogs, generally seeming more comfortable with females. Any potential canine housemate will need careful introductions to assess compatibility. Moby also shows significant aggression around toys. This is an essential consideration for his future home. His adopter must be prepared for ongoing management and dedicated behavior work with a qualified professional who uses reward-based methods. Love will be an important part of his new life, alongside the experience, structure, and commitment needed to keep everyone safe. His ideal person will have plenty of time to build trust, understand his triggers, and support him without rushing his progress. Moby needs someone who takes his challenges seriously while also appreciating the affectionate, playful dog they’ll get to know. There is so much to love about Moby: his soulful eyes, his funny little calls for attention, his enthusiasm for a walk, and the way he settles into affection from someone he trusts. He deserves a home where those moments can be part of everyday life. Could you be the experienced, patient person who gives Moby the care, understanding, and lasting companionship he needs?
