Notes from Hudson Paws Dog Rescue
Penny is a beautiful 2-year-old Staffordshire mix weighing approximately 41 pounds—a petite powerhouse with a striking amber coat and warm eyes to match. This small, muscular girl has plenty of energy and an affectionate personality. Once you’re someone she knows and loves, she’s delighted to see you and eager to share her kisses! Penny enjoys getting outside for playtime and does very well on leash walks. After she’s had a chance to burn off some energy, her favorite place is curled up on the couch. She offers a wonderful mix of playful enthusiasm and cozy companionship for someone who understands her needs. Penny needs to be the only dog in her household. She is highly selective about canine companions, particularly other females, and does not do well with most dogs. Her adopter must have experience managing dog reactivity and be prepared to give her space from other dogs, with careful management both at home and out in the world. Penny spent a couple of overnights with a volunteer and did wonderfully in a home environment overall! She did have a couple of potty accidents, so her adopter should be prepared to support her with house-training. We believe that with time to decompress, a consistent routine, and patient encouragement, she’ll continue to improve as she settles into her new home. When Penny is excited to see familiar people, she can become jumpy and nippy with enthusiasm. She will need consistent guidance to help her practice calmer greetings and express that excitement more appropriately. Penny also shows some aggression around toys, an important behavioral need that her future adopter must take seriously. She needs someone committed to ongoing management and behavior work with a qualified professional. This behavior may require long-term support, and her home must be prepared to follow a plan that keeps everyone safe. Her ideal person will have experience adopting adult rescue dogs with complex histories and trauma, along with the time and patience to build trust and understand her boundaries. A predictable routine, thoughtful guidance, and plenty of affection will be important parts of helping Penny settle in. There is so much to cherish about this little girl: her happy kisses, her enthusiasm for outdoor time, and the quiet moments when she curls up beside you after a busy day. Penny is ready for someone who appreciates those joys and is equally committed to supporting her challenges. Could you be the experienced, patient person who gives Penny the love, structure, and lasting home she deserves?
