Mocha
Pointer / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed · Adult · Female · Small · Hudson, NY
Notes from Hudson Paws Dog Rescue
Mocha is a beautiful 2-year-old Pointer / Staffordshire mix weighing approximately 50 pounds, with a chocolate-brown and white coat, delicate freckles, and a charming white stripe down her nose. This strong, agile girl has a spirited personality and sweet brown eyes that make you want to know her better. Mocha’s playful side shines around people she trusts. One of her favorite things is putting on a little show for the staff: she waits until we enter the yard, then races around with her toys and enjoys a lively game of chase with compatible dog friends. Watching her have fun and seek out our attention is such a joy! She knows “sit,” does well on leash walks, and has so much affection to share once she feels secure. Mocha is very slow to warm up to unfamiliar people, especially men, and needs patient, gradual introductions. Her future family must be willing to give her space and let trust develop at her pace. Once you’re part of her circle, you’ll discover a loving girl who treasures that connection. Mocha had a difficult start. She was living in a car with her owner, her dad Marvin, and her brother Moby. Her owner tried hard to find shelter for them, but struggled to find somewhere that could take the family. Despite being three counties away, we made room for them all. They arrived malnourished, with sores from their cramped living conditions. With care and rehabilitation, they regained their health. Today, Mocha is thriving in our care, and we’re hoping to find an adopter who can give her the stability and understanding she needs. Mocha needs an experienced adopter who understands rescue dogs with trauma and complex behavioral needs. She can become jumpy when excited to see familiar people and will need consistent, gentle guidance as she practices calmer greetings. Although she enjoys some canine companions, Mocha is very selective about other dogs and generally seems more comfortable with males. Any potential canine housemate will need careful introductions through the rescue to assess compatibility. She also needs support during play, particularly when interactions become too rough. Mocha shows aggression around toys and needs an adopter prepared for careful management and ongoing professional behavior support. This is an important part of her placement, and her future person should work closely with our team to understand her triggers and needs. Mocha’s ideal home will offer a predictable routine, patient handling, and plenty of time to build a relationship. She deserves someone who appreciates her playful confidence with trusted friends while respecting the uncertainty she feels in unfamiliar situations. There is so much to cherish about Mocha: her spirited yard antics, her attentive eyes, and the affection she shares when she knows she’s safe. We’re looking for someone ready to support her challenges and celebrate the loving companion they’ll get to know. Could you be the experienced, devoted person who gives Mocha a safe place to land and a family to call her own?
