Notes from Mountainair Animal Control Shelter

Hi, I'm Lena. I'm a shy girl and still learning that the world isn't such a scary place. I came to the shelter with my four puppies, and now I'm hoping it's finally my turn to be taken care of. Humans make me nervous and when someone approaches me, my first instinct is to cower down and make myself as small as possible. I'm not trying to be difficult or unfriendly. I'm just scared, and I haven't quite figured out yet that people can be kind. Every day, I'm discovering that soft voices can be comforting, and maybe the world isn't as frightening as I thought. I've also learned that having another dog around makes things a little easier (the volunteers here call it "borrowing confidence"). I enjoy their company, and having a canine friend helps me feel a little braver. Slowly but surely, my confidence is growing. I know I'm not the kind of dog who will run into your arms the moment we meet. I might need some extra time, patience, and reassurance. But I hope someone out there will see past my fear and recognize the sweet girl underneath it all. Mountainair, NM Pit Bull Mix Female, pending spay appointment ~1 year old Adoption fee $100I've spent so much time living in fear. Now I'm hoping someone will be patient and gentle with me.
