Notes from No Dog Left Behind

Hi there! My name is Lottery, but somewhere along my journey, I decided I prefer to be called Merle. I'm some sort of Beagle/Hound mix born around September of 2023 with the velvetiest ears you've ever felt and the kindest soul, or so I'm told. I'm a people-pleaser through and through. I'm also pretty sure I'm the perfect size: big enough to join you on your next adventure, but small enough to curl up right in your lap afterward.

When I was first brought into rescue, I had almost no fur and needed lots of extra groceries. Thanks to plenty of love, care, and good meals, my coat is coming back beautifully. And if I may brag a little, have you seen my pictures? I've got some pretty handsome coloring!

Speaking of my best qualities, I'm 100% potty trained. Not a single accident since arriving at my current foster home, which I've been told is quite impressive. I will also snuggle up in my crate and sleep soundly through the night. During the day, I'm still working on my crate manners and may sing you the occasional hound-dog ballad if I think I've been abandoned. The good news? My foster dad says I'm super smart and already making great progress.

Most of the time, I'm a pretty quiet guy. I don't get territorial when visitors stop by, and I'm happy to make new friends, both human and canine. That said, the squirrels and bunnies in the yard should probably stay alert because I take neighborhood security very seriously. Consider your perimeter protected.

I love playing with the kids in my foster home (ages 5 and 7), and I've even helped teach them the importance of cleaning up their toys. To be fair, some of their things look an awful lot like dog toys, and I do enjoy a good chew session. I'm working hard on my "leave it" command and redirect easily when reminded.

If you're looking for a loyal sidekick who will love you fiercely, snuggle deeply, learn quickly, and keep your rugs accident-free, then I just might be your guy.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $550.00

What happens next

  1. Contact No Dog Left Behind using the button. AdoptNearby does not take applications.
  2. They will send you their application or ask a few questions about your home.

  4. Read the dogs care guide so you arrive prepared.
