Notes from Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue, Inc.

PIRANHA: TINY. CUTE. ABSOLUTELY PLOTTING SOMETHING. Hello, my name is Piranha… also known as Rahna, “Dangit Piranha,” and “DON’T BITE THAT!” Located in Central Florida At only about 4 months old, Piranha is already making it VERY clear that she is mostly Malinois—and apparently intends to live up to every bit of it. She chomps. She Mal chatters. She climbs. She problem solves. She has already figured out how to scale furniture to steal a house key off the kitchen counter AND has escaped her seatbelt safety leash in the truck three separate times. And she is SMART. Piranha has extremely high food and toy drive, loves to train, and her foster believes that in the right hands she could be trained to do just about anything. Her report card specifically notes potential for working/handler work or dog sports, with that ball motivation potentially translating into things like dock diving or frisbee. But underneath all that tiny Maligator chaos? She is a complete Velcro puppy who wants to snuggle her person and be wherever they are. Her report card literally lists her favorite toy as Dad, favorite activity as chewing on Dad, favorite treat as Dad’s fingers and steak bits, and favorite place to nap as with Dad anywhere. Dog tested & friendly Cat tested & friendly Kid tested & friendly Great in the carPiranha also LOVES water, is fascinated by goldfish, and is currently learning commands like no, leave it, and heel—although we suspect “don’t bite that” may remain the most frequently used phrase in her household for a while. Her foster says she is “the full complete package of crazy, sweet, and feisty” and one of the best puppies they’ve had the pleasure of fostering. While Piranha does well with other animals, her foster believes she would be best suited as the only dog in her forever home simply because this girl is going to need a LOT of individual attention, training, structure, and a firm, knowledgeable handler who understands what they’re signing up for. This is not your average puppy. This is a tiny, highly motivated Malinois brain with teeth. And for the right person? She could be something pretty incredible.
