Notes from Adopt A Homeless Animal Rescue

3 year old Paco has been busy settling into foster life, making many new friends, exploring the world, and showing everyone just how truly smart, funny, and lovable he is! His foster family has lots of fun updates to share about this sweet, curious boy.

Paco LOVES people, and they love him! He absolutely adores being petted and making new friends. He sits or throws himself down to get belly rubs.

He’s even charmed his neighbors, including a senior neighbor who loves showing off to other neighbors his ability to sit on command for her. Paco is happy to oblige!

Paco weighs 69 pounds and enjoys his walks and taking in all the sights around him! :feet: When he spots other dogs, he shows curiosity and friendly interest. If the other dog reacts, his foster tells Paco to wait until they pass, and he patiently sits and watches them go by.

One particularly encouraging moment happened when two dogs suddenly appeared just a few feet away, barking as they came out of their building. Paco stayed calm and didn’t react!

Paco walks very well on the leash, although he could have more practice with heeling.

When he’s not out exploring, Paco enjoys relaxing in his dog bed or lounging in the sun outside on the balcony rug, happily watching people and dogs go by. He doesn’t bark at them, just takes it all in.

He also enjoys chilling out with doggie ice cream, a kong or a frozen lick mat with peanut butter, coconut yogurt, blueberries and pieces of dog cookie.

Paco also loves water! He has enjoyed going into the waves in the ocean and he loves chasing water from the hose or a sprinkler!

What about kids? One neighbor commented that Paco might love being around children. His foster family was happy to share that Paco has been approved by the rescue for a home with children ages 12 and older. We know that breed stereotypes don’t tell the whole story, and Paco deserves to be appreciated for the individual dog he is!

Smart, funny, and full of personality! Paco delights on a daily basis as his fosters watch him learn about the world around him.

One day, his foster paused the TV during a scene with a person. Paco stared at the screen as if he were trying to figure out whether that was a real person. He even gave one little bark at the TV before deciding it wasn’t worth any more of his time.

He has been caught falling asleep while sitting upright. He also sometimes rolls onto his back and stays like that, even falling asleep at times!

He occasionally gives his dog bed and blanket a gentle nibble. His foster family’s previous pit bull mix did the same thing and earned the nickname “Nibble Pibble,” so perhaps Paco is carrying on the tradition.

Paco has great house manners. He doesn't try to get up on the couches or beds (the fosters would have no issue with this but potential adopters might, so it hasn't been encouraged). He is learning to stay out of the kitchen when his people are in there cooking.

Originally, he was a bit mouthy during play, and he’s since stopped that and has settled nicely into a routine and understanding what is expected of him.

Paco loves being around his people and sometimes gets so excited for attention that he’ll put his front paws in his foster mom’s lap while she’s working. If he’d like some attention and his human is busy, he may try jumping, barking, or a little GRRing to get noticed. He is, however, learning quickly that sometimes his people need to concentrate, and he will lay down on his bed and stay quiet.

He’s also discovered—only one time—that toilet paper can be surprisingly entertaining when left within reach! A little supervision and appropriate activities can help keep this curious boy occupied.

Paco has not had any accidents in the home and has done well when left for several hours.

What more could you ask for? Could Paco be YOUR next best friend? Paco has lots of love to give and is ready to find his people!

Paco is an affectionate, entertaining, people-loving boy with a curious mind and a personality that will keep you smiling. He enjoys his walks, shows friendly curiosity toward other dogs, loves meeting people, and has a knack for making himself right at home.

He’s looking for a family who will give him love, take him for walks, keep him engaged, and give him his forever home.
