Notes from Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center

Spot is a social dog who easily gets excited in his kennel and will begin barking loudly and jumping about, but once he is out of his kennel he is able to settle down and loosen up. He also likes to move his empty food bowls around his kennel so prepare for dog bowl hide n seek! OTHER PETS: Spot met another dog of similar size and was initially stiff but after a few moments he loosened up and invited play. He continued soliciting play even after the other dog gave signals to end the fun; pushy behavior would likely be too much for less playful dogs but he may do well with a well socialized dog of similar play style. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement, or willingness to learn, would be ideal. Spot would do best with someone capable and comfortable handling a strong dog, without being heavy handed. Spot will need patience and positive reinforcement as he learns. [Some Experience] KIDS: Spot is a friendly dog who jumps when excited and is big enough he may accidently injure a smaller human. He has also engaged in mild resource at TJO around his food by eating faster and positioning himself over his food - he should be fed alone and anyone who lives with him should be able to leave him alone while eating. Spot should meet any minors he would be living with prior to adoption, minors and dogs should be actively suprevised to keep everyone safe and comfortable. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Spot is an active dog but will settle on his own and self entertain with toys (he especially enjoys squeaky ones.) Combining regular exercise with mental enrichment such as toys, sniffing, and learning new tricks will help meet his needs and prevent boredom. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Spot bond with his new owner, build confidence, and learn new skills and fun tricks. [Moderate]
