Notes from Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center

OTHER PETS: Marley was not interested in meeting hyper dogs, and gets grumpy with other dogs if they play too roughly (even if not with her); Marley would do best as an only dog, although she enjoys socializing with low energy dogs outside of the home. [Should Be Only Pet] NO CATS OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn will be ideal. Marley is going to need time, compassion, and understanding while she settles in - it may take longer than usual for her to begin to decompress and open up. [Some Experience] KIDS: Marley has been uncomfortable with people interfering with her food, so she will do best living with humans who will not mess with her food bowls. She can also be nervous with strangers at first, and will need someone that can understand she needs to take things slowly and set the pace. As with any dog, interactions between children and dogs should always be closely monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe. [12+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Marley walks well on a leash and enjoys spending time outside, she enjoys games and playtime. Marley would do best with a combination of regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles, sniffing, and learning new tricks to keep activities varied while meeting her needs. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Marley is currently on a weight loss plan to help her get back on track for her goal of chasing all the birds and squirrels she can find! A good relationship with a vet will ensure that Marley continues to lose weight at an appropriate rate and will continue to age gracefully. She has seemed to be uncomfortable with veterinary exams at times, however, so she may need to be given a prescribed medication prior to exams to make those visits as stress-free as possible. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Marley bond with her new family while building confidence and learning new skills and fun tricks. [Ongoing] GROOMING: [Minimal]
