Notes from Safe Haven of Iowa County

Meet Nelly! ❤️

Nelly (fka Azel) is a beautiful Boxer mix with a heart that's just waiting for the right person to help it shine. After being returned to our shelter, she's looking for a fresh start with a family that understands that trust takes time. Nelly can be a little nervous and reactive - when meeting new people or experiencing unfamiliar situations, and she's sensitive to certain noises, but once she feels safe and knows you're part of her circle, her goofy, loving personality begins to blossom. She enjoys spending time with her people and forms strong, loyal bonds with those she loves.

Nelly is looking for a home with older children (ages 16 and up) or adults only, as younger children are not the best fit for her. She can also be protective of her home and the people she cares about, so she'll thrive with patient adopters who are committed to continuing her training, building her confidence, and helping her feel secure. With consistency, understanding, and plenty of positive reinforcement, Nelly has all the potential to become an incredibly devoted companion. If you're willing to give this sweet girl the time she deserves, you'll be rewarded with a loyal best friend who will love you with her whole heart.
