Notes from SouthEast Beagle Rescue Inc.

***ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY: ACCORDING TO ELLIE ***Sméagol excels in beagle-ness. He really is a bit full of himself but it’s actually endearing and his hard-headedness will often make you laugh and love him all the more. Smeagol never meets a stranger and likes all people. He’s been good with kids around 7, though we don't know about about toddlers. He interacted well with all the dogs in his Louisiana foster home and had absolutely no problem with anyone from day one. He will tumble and rough house with one of his doggy buddies on occasion but is completely indifferent to the cat who chooses to sleep next to his crate at night. He does however show a high prey drive when it comes to rabbits, squirrels, and raccoons! House training is good. We would like to see him have a fenced yard, but the fencing will need to be secure as he will find escape routes if there are any. While definitely food motivated, he is not food aggressive at all. Sméagol loves to be petted and talked to, but is not a big snuggler. He appeared to prefer his foster dad over foster mom, although he’ll run to her for petting too. Sméagol is crated with the door closed for meals and overnight. He will vocalize if he wants or needs to get out, but once he is put him to bed at 11pm with the other dogs, he’s usually quiet and settles right down. Smeagol was heartworm positive and went through his treatment in April.
