Notes from Dog Star Rescue

Amber, at just over a year old, is a chihuahua/dachshund mix, weighing in at 9 pounds. She will need a special person or family that is willing to be patient and nurturing as she adjusts to a new home. With good reason! She was abandoned by her family, literally left behind until she was found. By then she was in shock. She was totally closed off to people and dogs for 1-2 weeks before she felt comfortable and sought attention from her foster family. But now she has blossomed, becoming a pack animal with other dogs and loving the people who care for her. She is still shy of strangers, but that is to be expected. She has not been mouthy or nippy, even when terrified. Without a doubt she will be very stressed in her travels north from Louisiana. And, that is why it needs to be a family that understands and is willing to wait until she is comfortable. Her house training, leash training and crate training are in progress. Daily walks will support leash skills as well as socialization skills. (It will also be an opportunity to find out what commands she knows). It will be a new world to her with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along her walk. A secure back yard would give her free time to play. At home she will benefit from mental stimulation in the form of activities and play toys. That will keep her from being bored. Most of all she will thrive with a family that provides lots of love and affection. Provide a warm and stable lap and Amber will find her place to rest. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Amber is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.
