Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

Meet Champ, the handsome white and blue tick pittie mix. Champ came to the Shelter after his previous guardian passed away. He lived in a home with children and adults. He was outdoors in his previous home but slept indoors at night. His new adopter will need some patience in helping Champ to learn about indoor living and his new home. Champ’s favorite activities in the previous home were running and playing. Champ enjoys riding in the car and knows “sit”. Champ has lived with other dogs in his previous home. He has been cautious of new dogs at the Shelter. Any resident dogs are required to meet prior to adoption. He has also lived with 2 cats previously and did well. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This dog’s adoption fee will be reduced to $31. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
