Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter
Meet Teddy, the 7 year old neutered male `Goldendoodle` (Standard Poodle mixed with Golden Retriever). Teddy’s father was a poodle and mother was a golden retriever. Teddy came into the Shelter as an owner surrender along with two other dogs after their guardian could no longer care for them. Teddy could be adopted with his friend Purple, but is not required to be adopted with him. Teddy spent the majority of his time outdoors in his previous home and would come into the garage at night. Teddy is comfortable around the other dogs he grew up with but barks at unknown dogs. A home as the only dog may be the best moving forward. Adopters should plan to manage Teddy’s environment to prevent him from being put in stressful situations around other dogs. Adopters also need to know that Teddy's coat will grow in tightly curled like a poodle's, and that he will need regular grooming to keep his coat and health in good condition. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This dog’s adoption fee will be reduced to $31. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
