Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

Meet the “Pitbull” little of pittie mix puppies. These five puppies came into the Shelter’s care after a good Samaritan intercepted a resident selling puppies in the Santa Cruz Mountains. After buying the puppies off of him, the puppies were brought to the Shelter to ensure that they were safe, vaccinated and sterilized before being adopted out to families. These three puppies are eager, rambunctious pocket-sized puppies. We anticipate that they will grow to be around 50lbs when full grown based on their current weights. Named after the Cuban-American rapper, these adorable pups are planning to top hits in their adoptive homes. Adopters should plan on working on all things puppy such as life skills and manners, potty training and age appropriate socialization. This puppy is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This dog’s adoption fee will be reduced to $31. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
