Notes from Yolo County SPCA

**Diego is a mixed-breed dog. While he has a low-shed coat, we cannot guarantee he is allergy-friendly.**

Diego is a sweet and sensitive boy eager for love!

Diego is about 3 years old, and he is a loyal and loving boy looking for a family to shower him with love. He is a shy pup who takes some time to trust, but once you earn his heart, you have it for life. He is looking for a patient family who understands his love is worth the wait. Diego weighs about 11lbs.

Diego has been through so much in his short life, and we want him to have the happy ending he deserves. He was originally surrendered to the YCSPCA last year after his family faced financial difficulties and couldn't care for him and their other two dogs. He was quickly adopted, but was returned through no fault of his own, this time with his new buddy, Cowboy. Cowboy has been adopted, so now it's Diego's turn to find love.

Diego is an affectionate guy who bonds strongly with his people. He is a big cuddler and is happiest when he can be by your side. He has moderate energy, so he could be a wonderful companion for someone who is newly retired and wants a lap dog. Diego was undersocialized as a puppy, so new things and places can make him nervous. He has come so far in gaining confidence, but he is a dog we would consider a flight risk in a new home. His new family will need to be very careful while he is acclimating to keep him safe. He will need a home with a yard, as he is not yet comfortable walking on a leash, and we don't want to risk him getting loose on a walk.

Diego finds great comfort with other dogs, so he will need a confident dog buddy in his new home to help him thrive. He has lived with dogs his size of all ages, but might do well with a larger, gentle dog, too. Diego has done well living with cats and being around chickens, goats, and horses. He has previously lived with kids, but would need to be with older kids who can respect his boundaries and be gentle with him.

Diego is still working on his house-training, so his new family will need to be patient with him while he is learning. He is okay being left for short periods with the other dogs in his home and would do best with someone who won't have to leave him alone often or for long.

Diego has the type of fur that will require regular professional grooming, so his family will need to be able to afford that extra cost.

Diego is such a special guy, and he deserves a family just as amazing as he is. If you think that might be you, submit an application today!

Diego's adoption fee is $500.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
