Notes from El Dorado County Animal Services - Placerville

Meet MacMac is a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix who is looking for something he may not have had enough of in his past: kindness. There’s something a little prehistoric about this big, handsome guy. He has that old-soul, gentle-giant look about him, and underneath it is an incredibly soft and loving dog. Mac is a big love who seems like he may not have always been cared for in the kindest way, and he is more than deserving of a second chance with someone who will show him what being truly loved feels like. Mac is very enthusiastic when meeting other dogs. He can come on strong with overwhelming excitement, but once the initial excitement wears off, he does settle down. He could potentially be a great match for a large, neutral female dog who is comfortable giving him a little time to figure things out. Mac does have a significant history with livestock, so a home with goats, sheep, or similar animals is not appropriate for him. Because of this, he needs a well-fenced property and someone who will be responsible about keeping him safely contained and well attended. He would love a home where he can be part of the family while also having room to stretch out and enjoy life. He could be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a large dog to share their property with — whether that means hanging out with the family, accompanying his person around the property, or simply being that big presence that makes you feel a little safer at night. Mac is soft. He is kind. He is a gentle giant who just needs someone willing to see past his rough edges and give him the time, patience, and love he deserves. Be kind to Mac, and he will give you the world.
