Kolton
Belgian Shepherd Malinois · Adult · Male · Large · Modesto, CA
Notes from Greater California German Shepherd Rescue
Kolton is a handsome 5 year-old Belgian Malinois. He came from a shelter, so not much is known about his past. He arrived out of the shelter weighing only 56.5 lbs appearing malnourished and missing patches of fur. After several medicated baths and a good diet, his hair has filled in and he’s up to 68.3 lbs but can stand to gain a few more lbs. He had a bad tooth, which has been extracted and he is eating comfortably now. Kolton is also playful with the resident female German Shepherd in the foster home. While it seems, he wasn't offered much training in the past, he is absolutely a quick learner. He has learned all the basics and continues to pick up more every day. Keeping everyone engaged with him but still not too overwhelming. As he will be new to your space so make sure everyone, it will be important so he will know who is who. Kolton loves riding in the car and sticking his nose out the window to smell every scent the world has to offer. His other favorite thing in life is cuddling up and sleeping next to his person but, he needs to get in between you and your current resident. Kolton is crate trained but also sleeps well out side of his crate all night long without training once he settles in, he will need to go out first thinking the morning (let him out about 4am) and he gets eager to get out. He is an energetic because Kolton’s breed is known for bursts of energy, he will need training and preferably a home wanting to engage his brain. He would do best in a home with older children (15+ years) and experienced with large, energetic dogs. He is exceptionally athletic and will need to be with somebody who will continue to provide him with the daily exercise and training that he enjoys. Kolton will do well with an active person who is always on to the next adventure. Level 3
