Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

Lovey Dovey may be a senior dog in years but has the pep and love of a much younger dog. She has been living it up in a foster home but is looking for her adoptive home. Here is the low-down on this sweet girl:-Relaxed when left alone free roam in the house while foster parents work full time-Potty trained-LOVES to cuddle on the couch-Great on car rides-Enjoys walks but a bit strong on leash-Enjoys playing with toys-Would do best in a home without small animals (cats, rabbits, etc)-In foster w/ a male dog around her size. Can be selective with her dog friends (prefers quality over quantity). Any resident dogs to meet prior to adoption. Dovey’s adoption fee is sponsored thanks to the Silver Whisker’s Society – a fund aiming to get often overlooked seniors out of the Shelter. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
