Notes from Siamese Oriental Snowshoe Cat Rescue and Rehoming
Simba — A Little Lion Learning to Trust Every little lion deserves a pride—and Simba is looking for his. This handsome ginger boy, complete with a fluffy little tail, has been learning something important: people can be trusted. When he first arrived in foster care, he wouldn’t allow anyone to touch him. With patience and time, he has mellowed and now lets his foster pet him. For Simba, those little moments are big accomplishments. Simba does well with the other cats in his foster home, and a friendly feline companion could help him feel at home. With people, he prefers affection with all four paws on the ground. He allows petting but currently doesn’t enjoy being picked up or held. Starting Life with Simba• Start small. Give him a quiet safe room with food, water, a litter box, a scratching surface, and a cozy hiding spot. Let him become comfortable there before gradually introducing more of the home.• Let him set the pace. Sit nearby, talk softly, and allow him to approach. Short, comfortable visits will help him learn that your company feels safe.• Build a routine. Consistent meals and gentle daily interaction can give him something familiar to count on. Offer treats or a wand toy and see what interests him.• Respect his boundaries. Enjoy the petting he accepts without pushing him to be held. His adopter should welcome the cat he is today while celebrating whatever progress comes next.• Introduce other pets gradually. Although he gets along well with his foster’s cats, new friendships still need time and supervised introductions. A Little Extra Care for His Left EyeSimba is currently being treated for a watery left eye with eye drops and allergy medication. His adopter must be comfortable continuing his prescribed care, which may include daily treatment, and following up with their veterinarian. We will share his current treatment instructions and what is known about his ongoing needs before adoption. Because Simba is still building trust with handling, we’ll also discuss how he tolerates his medication and how it is being given in foster care. His Perfect PersonSimba needs a patient adopter in a calm home who finds joy in earning a cautious cat’s trust. He is best suited to someone who doesn’t need a cat to carry around and who can support both his emotional adjustment and his current medical care. We can’t promise a future lap cat. We can promise that Simba deserves someone who sees the value in every small step. If a little ginger lion choosing to trust you sounds like something worth waiting for, Simba might be your boy. Thank you for considering adopting one of our kittens/cats.
