Notes from Dallas Animal Services

Silver is a male cat who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) and is currently showing no clinical signs of illness. However, Silver has been exposed to feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness, dehydration, and immune suppression, particularly in unvaccinated or vulnerable cats. Due to this known exposure, Silver requires strict quarantine, close monitoring, and supportive care during the incubation period to watch for the development of any clinical signs. This level of isolation and observation exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite his exposure risk, Silver remains bright, social, and is doing well at this time. Silver needs a safe, compassionate placement where he can complete his quarantine period and receive prompt veterinary care if signs of illness develop. This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care and isolation required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter. If you are interested in helping, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov with your contact information so we can call you back.

What happens next

  1. Contact Dallas Animal Services using the button. AdoptNearby does not take applications.
  2. They will send you their application or ask a few questions about your home.
  3. Most organizations arrange a meet, sometimes a home visit, then a small adoption fee that usually covers spay or neuter and vaccines. That fee is paid to Dallas Animal Services, never to AdoptNearby.
  4. Read the cats care guide so you arrive prepared.
