Notes from Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter
Meet Trick and Treat - the bonded pair of black kittens. These two brothers were named at the shelter as Trick and Treat. They are beautiful solid black kittens full of spunk and joy. Trick is the smaller of the two and outgoing. An athletic and sleek micro panther he is very focused towards people. He absolutely loves to be held and melts into your arms and won't stop purring. He is the sort of cat that will be all up in your business and you won't mind a bit! He also thinks that Treat should not get all the pets and likes to insert himself into the mix if he feels deprived of attention. Treat is the bigger and more cautious one of the pair. He takes a minute to warm up to new situations and will sometimes retreat before going out to explore. He's come a long way and I can easily see him continuing to blossom. He loves laps and to be petted in place, but is still coming to terms with being held. Sometimes he's ok with being held, but he's often squirmy. Especially when Trick is nearby and purring he will rev up his motor just as loudly to match when you stroke his velvety coat. These boys are all about their toys. They love everything -- especially the fleece wand, balls, tunnels, and the multi-stack ball track toy. Nothing is in half-measures, they play hard, eat with gusto and will hardly sit still long enough for me to get a photo of them. Wherever Trick will go, Treat will follow. They sleep together, eat together, they constantly play together and when I separate them and they are reunited they immediately curl up together and begin a wild grooming playfest. They are honestly better than anything on TV. I could watch them all day. As they say, black goes with everything, and these two black kittens would be a welcome addition in any household. Trick & Treat's adoption fee is 2 for 1. To keep them safe throughout their lives, an indoor only home would be best. Trick & Treat are available for pre-adoption. Come meet them, fall in love and take them home after their neuter surgeries. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This cat’s adoption fee will be waived! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
