STAR - Bonded with Astro
Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · Baby (6 months) · Female · Fremont, CA
Notes from Ohlone Humane Society
Star and her siblings were born on April 11. A concerned person called for help after the kittens were discovered during a property cleanup and they weighed 4 ounces. The litter was taken into foster with one of our dedicated bottle feeders to give them a chance at life.
Today, Star is a happy, playful, affectionate kitten who doesn't let anything slow her down.
This beautiful girl has a sleek black coat that shines in the light and a personality that is impossible not to love. She seeks out attention; her favorite thing is to climb up on your chest while you are working on your laptop and purr and rub her head on your face and purr and roll around upside down like a furry scarf. Her purr motor is always running, and she loves being close to people.
Star's favorite toy is a furry ball. She carries it proudly through the house, bats it around like a soccer player, and will run across the room and jump up on your lap to present it for another toss.
When Star went in for spay, a significant heart murmur was detected. A cardiology evaluation the following day revealed that she has a ventricular septal defect (VSD)—a hole in her heart that allows blood to mix improperly between chambers. Her defect is on the larger side and could potentially lead to breathing difficulties or congestive heart failure in the future.
The hopeful news is that Star is still young. Her cardiologist recommends a follow-up heart scan which is scheduled for Dec 30. There is a possibility that the defect could become smaller and less significant as she grows. In rare cases, VSDs can sometimes close on their own, resulting in an excellent prognosis but usually only the small holes.
Right now, Star is active, playful, affectionate, and enjoying life to the fullest. We would love a long-term foster or foster to adopt to give these two a place for love and play.
Star's greatest joy in life is her brother, Astro. The two are inseparable playing together, carrying toys together, and sleeping cuddled up side by side. They provide comfort, confidence, and companionship to one another, so they will be adopted as a bonded pair.
If you've ever considered opening your heart to a special-needs pet to adopt or longer-term foster, Star and Astro are ready to show you just how much love two little survivors can bring into your life.
Her next cardio appt is in December and which we plan on paying for, results reviewed to determine next steps etc
