Notes from For The Love of Birds

Hatch Date: Approx 2018 Mango is a sweet Sun Conure presumed to be around 8 years old. He has been DNA sexed male.

Mango had to be surrendered because of some aggressive behavior in his former home, but with the change of scenery as well as some environmental changes, no aggression has occurred in his foster home so far.

He will ride around on his foster mom's shoulder, but has a clear preference for men. If a man enters the room when he is with his foster mom, he will fly over to him. He likes hanging out with the boys.

He eats a healthy diet of pellets and chop, but only really touches the chop when his pellets run out, so timing his meals so that he has one or the other helps him get more nutrients in.

His treat food for training is fruit. He is in love with apples, grapes, and nearly any sweet fruit imaginable.

He is still a bit timid with his foster home, and will go back in his cage if someone approaches him, but then will come back out a moment later--- almost like he wants to make sure you're not dangerous before he will trust you to interact without a barrier in front of him.

He has not bitten yet in his foster home, and takes treats nicely from the family's fingers. The foster home is working on touch training with him. He doesn't step up on hands yet, but shows a lot of promise.

He is always okay to step back on his cage from a shoulder, and puts himself to bed in his cage, although that may change the more comfortable he gets! He is still in the early days in his foster home, so he doesn't like to leave "home base" much.

He makes his presence known, as do all Sun Conures, but isn't overly noisy or attention seeking. He does the standard bird screaming to match talking and other noise in the room.
